Ingredients

  • 60 g day-old bread (approx. 2 slices), torn into pieces
  • 90 g cheddar cheese, cut into cubes (2-3 cm)
  • ½ tsp dried chilli flakes
  • 1 egg
  • 170 g water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 500 g beef mince
  • 1 onion (approx. 150 g), cut into eighths, layers separated
  • 50 g butter
  • 200 g tomato sauce
  • 40 g white vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp English mustard
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 bread rolls (e.g Vienna, baguette, approx. 15 -18 cm long)
  • 8 - 10 Swiss cheese slices
  • 40 g rocket leaves, to serve
  • 2 pickled gherkins, cut into thin slices, to serve
