Mindful Kitchen

With the busy holiday season just around the corner, take a moment to tune in with mindful cooking and eating practices and recipes, and embrace a calmer and more present way of feeding yourself and your loved ones!

Mindful Cooking and Eating

Sit back and reflect on where your mind wanders when you are selecting and preparing ingredients, cooking, waiting for Thermomix® to finish a recipe step, or while eating. To embrace mindfulness, focus on being present in the here and the now, rather than being on autopilot. We invite you to look for a deeper connection to food and the overall cooking process. No hurry. No judgment. No pressure. Just ingredients, kitchen tools, your hands, and your mind. Before getting started, be sure to set your intention and purpose!

Mindful Cooking

Cooking has many benefits and doing it in a thoughtful, conscious, and present way can help relieve stress and improve your state of mind. Try to be calm and focused and pay attention to what is happening around you. While cooking, focus on your senses - whether it’s the sizzling sound of a sauté, the intense aroma of fresh herbs, or a complete change of texture after a few seconds of Turbo mode.

A worthwhile challenge

Tips for practicing mindful cooking

• When practicing mindfulness in the kitchen, treat cooking like an act of self-care, and embrace the beauty of a home cooked meal.
• Focus on each recipe step at a time, as each step will engage different senses. • If you’ve chosen a recipe with a lot of active time: focus on all 5 senses throughout the cooking experience.
• If you’ve chosen a recipe with a lot of cooking time: sit back and focus on the constantly changing smells and sounds happening in your kitchen while Thermomix® cooks for you.
• Get those creative juices flowing and prepare something you’ve never tried to cook before! You can even try creating your own recipe with Created recipes.

Mindful Eating

Mindful eating is all about being conscious of the eating ritual – bringing your full attention from your heart to your mind and body. The look, touch, texture, flavour, and aroma of ingredients should be centre stage, along with the reactions and emotions that they bring. Be sure to take a step back and reflect on the menu, and focus on foods that nourish your mind and soul.

5 tips to get started with mindful eating:

  1. Avoid distractions like TV or electronic devices while cooking and eating.
  2. Breathe and eat slowly, chew well, and always pay attention to the taste, texture, and aroma of each ingredient.
  3. During mealtimes, be sure to pause your day and take time to sit down at the table, to enjoy your food.
  4. Put your fork down between each bite so you can put all your focus on the flavours, textures, aromas and sounds of your food.
  5. Pay attention to the signals your body is sending you - knowing you are hungry is just as important as knowing you are full!

Indulge your 5 senses

You are what you eat!
